BASIC ROLEPLAY

Getting Around

You're in the lobby, and you very much want to get outside and walk around in the streets. How do you do this?
By using "prefix" commands, you can move around within the MUSH quite easily. Every MUSH room should have at least one exit. By typing the letter(s) that appear between the <>'s, you propel yourself through that exit to another room beyond.

There are also two "states of being" on the MUSH, In Character (or IC) and Out Of Character (or OOC). IC refers to times and places where you're playing through the eyes of the character you have created, and using the information and background that that character possesses. All interaction is pertinent to the Star Wars storyline directly. When OOC, you are yourself; the person sitting behind the keyboard peering at this rapidly scrolling screen. So real life stories, experiences, and interaction dominates. 90% of the MUSH is comprised of IC rooms and places, the other 10% is OOC rooms, like a chat lounge or lobby. Players can come and go between the two whenever they like or feel the need to. Players are strongly urged and guided to keep OOC events and information seperate and discriminate from IC information, however.

+OOC - This command will transfer you to OOC status, and the OOC world, or lobby.
+IC - This command will return you to IC status, and the exact location in the IC world where you were.

In the IC world, to travel in space, from planet to planet, one must utilize or be carried by a ship. There is no "POOF! ZAP! Teleport!" method to getting from one locale to another. A interstellar vessel is the only means.
There are several companies in the galaxy that provide shuttling service, for a price, to various destinations, or one can save up credits to purchase a ship from a manufacturing company.

Interaction - The Power of the POSE

The biggest element of RolePlay games is interacting with other characters and with your environment. Most important to this, is the POSE command. This makes your character actually _do_ something in a room. Some players get very ornate, and the whole of roleplay begins to take on a feel like you're in a book.
It is highly recommended that you learn the principles of posing, and use them effectively to keep RP action straightforward, and interesting for everyone.

Principles of Posing:

  • POSE something when entering or exiting a room that is occupied by other players.
  • POSE whenever approaching someone to initiate conversation. Remember that you more than likely do not know who the person is on a first name basis, and do not assume that they know you.
  • POSE things, in detail, before initiating combat.
  • POSE alot during combat. Keeps it interesting, realistic, and alieviates alot of trouble.

In short, posing is never a bad thing. Do it often and effectively, just being sure that the necessary information is in that pose to keep other players from taking your intent the wrong way, or becoming confused.

COMMANDS:

POSE stands still. -> Greg stands still.
: walks around. -> Greg walks around.
;'s hat flies off. -> Greg's hat flies off.
SAY hello. -> Greg says, "Hello".

Speaking in Tongues - Talking

There are several ways to talk to others in the MUSH. The most common way is SAYing what you want to say. This is done by standing in the same room as another person, and using the SAY command. For example:
SAY Hi Bob, how's it going today? -> Greg says, "Hi Bob, how's it going today?"

If the context of what you want to say is strictly OOC or RL information, use the OOC command prefix.
For example:
OOC Nuts, the Cubs lost again. You're a Chicago fan too, right? ->(OOC) Greg says, "Nuts, the Cubs lost again. You're a Chicago fan too, right?"
